Like a Forgotten Memory

Dark night, my best comrade,
in her lap all my worries fade.
I shed tears in her bowl,
of my mind’s screeching owl.
 A painful wound resurfaces,
plunging into my heart’s spaces.
Dark is the night and dark is the moon,
dreamy facades breathe in ruin.
Fireflies and dragons roam in my soul,
never to find their desired atoll
 Unseen shadows lurk around,
vanishing in labyrinthine hound.
I fall from laden tree as if a berry,
lost to ground like a forgotten memory.

  7. Often we feel a lot worse about ourselves than others do about us. This reflection and anticipated end occurs when hope fades. You have captured the feeling so well.

  10. The is most effective imagery - the sadness as the fireflies and dragons.. Indeed we need that soothing darkness sometimes.

Love these lines Vandana! They rightly portray the vanishing memories lying in ruins!

  13. Many poets, and writers in general, write about their fear and anxiety at night. I like that you chose a difference option, one where darkness helps find solace rather than exacerbates it.

  14. We can still see light as well as find comfort in darkness. Such a delicate and poigant poem Vandana.

  15. 'Dark is the night and dark is the moon,
dreamy facades breathe in ruin.' ~ kind of scary, when the moon is dark....but in the dreams everything can happen...
'I fall from laden tree as if a berry,
lost to ground like a forgotten memory.' ~ shocking metaphors, really works here...

  18. When the darkness, the best comrade, re-opens old wounds, all seems lost--but only until the resolution. Hopefully the vastness of horror, reduced to berry size denotes a healing. In the next line, you wake up to enjoy the dark once more.
