Ancient Tree

http://www.khedekars.com/
Oh! mighty “Peepal” tree,
none is as wise as thee.

Since, ages you have given -
enlightenment, wisdom and vision.

Your one pious touch,
can heal a heart, hurt so much.

The amaranthine blessings you shower,
give life an unending power.

Saints meditate beneath your shade,
gaining strength to wade.

King of trees you are,
like the pole star, among all stars.

We bow to thee,
Oh! mighty “Peepal” tree.

Ficus religiosa is called “Peepal” in Hindi language. It is a sacred tree in Hinduism and is worshipped all over India.

    1. Well, every part of this tree is sacred for us and usually we do not cut or even pluck a leaf fro mthis tree. It is considered as God's tree.

  9. I love your poem...it speaks my language...and beautifully too. I'm wondering if this is the same tree that we call a banyan here. They are magnificent type of ficus. My favorite tree.

  23. I have never heard of the Peepal tree, so I'm not sure if I am reading it correctly, but I read it to sound like "people." Which lead me to interpret this poem about how we are all a part of nature and the divine. It gave me a very nice feeling.
